Time to write

The Internet, Blogs and Social Networks has a strange impact on the writing of texts on specific subjects. Everybody is writing on their own blogs, bits and pieces on Social Networks, but the time to write complete essays on specific themes is what has been lacking. Not a lot of mail-artists write their thoughts in a 'isolated' and 'distanced' way anymore. everybody is reacting to others, and is busy with comuicating. The time to reflect on what we are doing sometimes is missing. Some questions I ask myself aren't answered.

When someone askes for mail-art to fill a blog with images and build a collection, is that the modern Mail-Art project? The sender gets his work published on a blog and that is it? No documentation or catalogue, but a digital document that will vanish in a few years.

Newcomers to mail-art looking for definitions on what mail-art is and finding out there are so many definitions that the most important ones "There are no rules in Mail-Art" and "The unwritten mail-art rules" are written down is o so many different ways.

Now that I have been doing mail-art for more then 30 years I am reflecting again on what changes I have seen in these decades. The computer always was a part of my life, but now has become a common tool for everybody. Communication has changed with the gadgets people and expecially the new generation are using. What is the essence of our communication?

Just some questions. Anwers can be found everywhere.

Mail to Nico van Hoorn arrived (Netherlands)

On Nico's blog there is the proof that my mail-art to him arrived safely. See for yourself at: http://nicovanhoorn-mail-art.blogspot.com/
