I sometimes (often?) look at the statistics of my blog. Call it a strange habbit that comes from my love for statistics (I did study Mathematics for 6 years....). What I notice is that the amount of visitors has decreased over the last months. is it just the vacation? When I look at a longer interval I notice the decrease is structural. Reasons?
More mail-artists started their blogs (some even quit because they found out it is very time-consuming). Scanning all the mail you send out, the mail you get in. Yes, it can cost you more than one hour each day. Less time for mail-art for sure.
Also more blogs to see out there. Can you keep track? Does a mail-artist really go through the mail-art of others all the time or is he just scanning to see if HIS/HER mail-art was published. The Blogs are a mail-art project on its own.
Is it all still interesting? Some blogs show a repetition of things. The same in a slightly varied form. Is that wat one is looking for? Or are there still these places (URL's) where it really is happening?

FYI - as someone new to the Mail Art world - (can you believe not long ago I thought I was the only person on the planet who mailed "interesting" things to unsuspecting recipients? Silly me) - it was and is wonderful for me to see there is such a strong network of others doing some of what I do. (Many far better, I might add.)
Want to let you know that I read your and many other artist's blogs regularly. Perhaps the increased number of mail art blogs is diluting the traffic to indivual sites, but I'm sure those that visit benefit enormously. I find sites like yours especially interesting as it shares some of the historic perspectives.
I know it takes a great deal of time and energy. Thanks for all your efforts.
Hi there, Thanks for these kind words. Always nice to hear. I am also glad you like the historic perspective I bring in sometimes. I like the larger lines in the mail-art network and try to guess where it is going.....
Hi Ruud!
I read this post right after you posted it on Wednesday. I was going to come back to comment on it a short bit later, but I never got around to it.
I have a fairly good size of mail art blogs and sites that I visit every day. I enjoy seeing the creations of other mail artists and sometimes get inspirations from them. Of course, it is always nice to see my own artwork put up on another person's site. But that is not the reason I visit other mail art sites.
Like Fat Red Ant, I am kind of new to mail art - as far as being involved with other people. I have been doing mail art for almost 15 years (sending to family, friends, and to myself), but just started trading with others on an international scale a few months ago. While I was stationed in Baghdad a year ago, I did some research on the internet and found out how large this genre was. Up until then, I thought I was one of a few that did mail art. I am glad I found other people to share my art with. I get a lot of excitement every time I find mail art in my mail box.
One more thing - I showed my girlfriend the first piece of mail art you sent to me just over a month ago. She loved it! She really likes your style. Just thought you would like to know that! Take care!

Blogging is in a different part of my brain than mail art. Blogging is almost professional. Mail art is play. But I do like to post my art and mail art in my blog. But I also blog about my teaching and readings. I love to look at other people's mail art blogs! Good luck on the move.
Hooray for blogs and hooray for the mail i say. they all have there different parts to play. And Playing with the parts. So many ways to communicate these days- its got to be a good thing!
