What happens next?

More and more mail-artists start with their BLOGS. A latest new one is by Pierpaolo Limongelli at http://sghinismus.blogspot.com/. He writes partly in Italian, but the images are clear for all. With these blogs we are making our mail-art accessible to lots of others, but we mustn't forget that we are still dealing with snail-mail (are we?). The next step might be that we don't send out letters out at all, and electronic communication is something completely different. For my work I have to deal with this electronic communication a lot. My students learn how to arrange mail-servers in firms, to create multi-functional websites, and still...... I enjoy it so much when I get the traditional mail-art. And so do most of the receivers of my mail-art I hope.

Where will this all lead us to. The postage is increased again, and sending out interesting (= large = expensive) mail-art worldwide is difficult for most of us. Is this how mail-art slowly comes to an end?

I don't write as many letters as i used to for fear of repeating myself but sending 3-D objects through the mail will continue as this can't be done by computer (yet!). I still send lots of CD's, tapes and books through the post and the occasional postcard.

My own letters have intensified as well. More painted originals, but less quantity.
